It’s Christmasss!

One of the most exciting times of the year is here. Unfortunately, it’s also a stressful one. Everywhere is full of people rushing around getting last minute presents or Christmas dinner preparations. I’m actually really excited for Christmas this year as it’s the first one my boyfriend and I are hosting in our new (and first) home! Usually at Christmas, I visit my family in London and spend the holidays there, this time though, I really wanted to celebrate it in my own place.

I’m hosting Christmas for 3, myself, my mum and my boyfriend so there isn’t a huge deal of pressure (yet). I’ve done well with organisation in regard to the food, I’ve made a 3 course meal plan and made sure I didn’t leave getting the food until last minute. Last week I did my first ever online food shop and bought all the Christmas food, I’m going to collect it tonight so hopefully they managed to have everything I ordered. I’ll be up first thing on Christmas morning to get the turkey and chicken in the oven and prepare the vegetables. Even thinking about it now gets me all giddy! Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I got it sorted early but now I’m stressing in case I’ve got too much or too little. I’m never a good guesser when it comes to quantity, then again it’s that time of year where over indulging is a must.

Presents; I haven’t even started let alone almost finished, I’m sure everyone can relate to this stress at somepoint. I ordered my boyfriend’s main present at the end of last week and it was due to be delivered Wednesday. Unfortunately, the delivery has been unsuccessful two days in a row now and probably will be unsuccessful again on the third attempt. It’s looking unlikely his present will arrive on time for Christmas which is annoying for me because I’m a perfectionist. The other presents I have planned for him and my mum I still need to get. Due to my working hours and current fatigue, I’ve not really been able to go out so my boyfriend and I have planned a trip to Manchester tomorrow to get everything sorted. The plus side is that I have a list of everything I need to get; the downfall is that I need to wander around the shops to see which one has the things I want. At least I know what I’m getting though!

My boyfriend doesn’t really do Christmas so I’ve been trying to get him in the festive mood. We visited the German market they do here and bought a Christmas tree. It was the first time he’s had a tree so it was lovely putting it up together and decorating it. We’ve had a few Christmas film nights too, getting all settled on the couch with the Christmas lights on and mince pies. It’s been lovely so far in the run up to Christmas. Hopefully, it continues to be as calm as possible.

I do have to admit the stress of Christmas on top of the activities I do during the day in addition to a full time job has taken a slight effect on my IBD. My last appointment in clinic was a couple of months ago and I recently just had a MRI scan so hopefully I get the results of that fairly soon. I managed to get in touch with my IBD nurse yesterday to chase up the results of my latest blood test, the results show low vitamin d and folate. This explains the fatigue I’m currently experience. I consider myself to be lucky, it was only two years ago I spent Christmas in hospital. That is a year I will never forget.

Despite the slight impact on my health, I’m really excited for Christmas this year. I’ll be sure to make sure I get plenty of rest. I’d like this opportunity to say thank you to my readers, fellow bloggers and supporters. Merry Christmas everyone!

Love and light,
Guts, Giggles & More x
